This book launches the concept of lifestyle medicine in Romania. It is a new area of development in daily life, which can act prophylactically to avoid the onset of chronic or acute diseases or to avoid their complications. Thus, with this proposal we bring to the readers' attention the amazing role of lifestyle in the prevention, progression, and treatment of chronic diseases. Risk factor or drug, protector or foe, lifestyle can dramatically influence health maintenance or disease progression.
The book brings together the experience of personalities with a prominent reputation in the Romanian medical life, validating the concepts on each specialty. Lifestyle Medicine, using the latest scientific evidence, becomes a feasible tool, useful for each specialty, with reflection in primordial, primary, and secondary prevention. The relevance of prevention and adherence to a healthy lifestyle is also relaunched by the current COVID-19 pandemic. All recommendations for proper nutrition, sustained physical activity, restful sleep, mindfulness, absence of smoking and stress management have been overturned by quarantine, isolation in the context of this virus.
All the more so, the following pages will provide recommendations and explanations for the current period, when lifestyle should be approached from a medical perspective with much more conviction, for educational purposes at population level.
