Prof. Christina Karatzaferi

Prof. Christina Karatzaferi is a Professor in Exercise Physiology & Myology and the Dean of the School of PE, Sport Science and Dietetics at the University of Thessaly, Greece. Her academic career has spanned over two decades and two continents, via prestigious UK, USA and EU academic institutions. Her research interests lie at the cross-roads of muscle physiology, biophysics and metabolism, to unveil mechanisms that regulate muscle quality, in the hope of preserving muscle function in the face of disuse or disease. In parallel, she is involved in research trials testing Lifestyle Medicine approaches for maintaining independence and quality of life in ageing and NCD management while also leading innovative developments in the field of Lifestyle Medicine education, incl. the MSc in Lifestyle Medicine, endorsed by ELMO.
